Many non-profit organizations offer support to American Bulldogs that need new homes. Dogs usually get medical assistance and basic training. The advantage of getting a dog from a rescue is in the following: the animal is already socialized; it has gone through a series of necessary shots; it does not cost as much as a puppy.

However, before adopting an American Bulldog one should learn as much as possible about the breed. The main aspects to pay attention to are American Bulldogs' personality, health concerns, and training classes the dogs are supposed to take.

American Bulldogs Breeders - Reasons Why Dogs are Abandoned

It is essential to realize that American Bulldogs are working dogs. Therefore, they need to be treated accordingly. Some owners tend to forget that all dogs are bred for this or that purpose. American Bulldogs need much exercise. They do best when they participate in obedience classes, agility and dog shows. Even if the American Bulldog is kept as a house pet, it should be trained and its exercise and activity needs should be met.

There are some sad cases when the American Bulldog owners may have to abandon the dogs. If an American Bulldog is often left unattended, it can get bored and become destructive. It is not the dog's but the owner's fault, as the American Bulldog must have an energy outlet. When the dog starts misbehaving and displays some behavioral changes, its owner chooses to surrender it, as he usually has neither time nor inclination to correct his own mistakes. Other reasons why American Bulldogs can get in shelters are changes in the owner's life style, his illness or death. Rescue American Bulldogs deserve a chance. With patience and care, American Bulldogs are most likely to make wonderful family friends.

The American Bulldog is strong, intelligent, and easy to train. Compatibility with other dogs is not high. However, it is good with children.

American Bulldogs need a considerable amount of exercise. There are also some requirements for living conditions. Thus, American Bulldogs should be kept in a fenced yard and have sufficient space for daily activities. American Bulldogs Puppies - American Bulldogs are generally calm dogs. They are said to be good with children if socialized with them from an early age. Nevertheless, the dogs need much training since they are not mere companions. The American Bulldog is a working dog. It is well muscled, bold, but rarely aggressive. It has short coat of white or white and brindle color. Some individual dogs have patches. White color is still preferable. The breed is basically disease resistant and does not suffer from any major inherited illnesses.

American Bulldogs - American Bulldogs have a unique position among other dog breeds. The breed is getting more and more popular nowadays. At the same time, some people do not know the American Bulldog breed well. This breed is rather ancient. First, Bulldogs were used in England to guard farms. Pictures of these dogs dating as far back as 1850 in England serve as a proof of the breed's ancient origins. The American Bulldog is also a rare breed. The breed was used for such blood sports as bull baiting, bear baiting, badger hunting and is believed to be different in temperament and appearance from the dog we know today.

The early 1600s was the time when American Colonists imported these dogs as they valued them for their outstanding abilities to guard dogs to protect their farms and their livestock.
